Things are heating up

The middle east is in turmoil and the American dollar is on the shitter. What I can't figure out is why the Americans don't use their untold billions of dollars to develop and produce their own cheap/free energy and end their dependence on foreign oil and relations. The technology is there. Why surpress it or delay it. Doesn't make any sense at all.

Are they afraid if the develop ot someone else will copy it and be as powerful as they are. It's going to happen anyways... if it already hasn't.
